Because the planet Vulcan is supposed to be between the Sun and Mercury, I decided to narrow my choice down to only those astrological signs with either the Sun or Mercury as the ruling body. This left me Gemini, Leo and Virgo.
At first I was thinking of picking Virgo because Virgo's element was fire. However after reading a Virgo's personality, I decided I didn't want Sailor Vulcan to act that way. Besides Sailor Mercury was already a Virgo.
Eventually, I picked Leo for two reasons. First, Leo's element is also fire, and secondly, July 29th 1877 is one of the days that the planet Vulcan was supposedly spotted. July 29th falls in the reign of Leo.
Now I ended up picking July 29th as Akane's birthday just because it was convenient and suited the Vulcan theme. The actual day you pick is probably not all that important but it's always fun to pick a day that is in some way significant, at least to you.
